The Passifloraceae family comprises approximately 750 different plants, shrubs, and trees divided into 27 genera. One of the most well-known genera in this family is the plant from which the family gets its name, namely the passionflower (Passiflora). So, it is actually a distant cousin of the passionflower! Damiana is a shrub with beautiful yellow fragrant flowers, and its leaves resemble the scent of chamomile. After the flowers have bloomed, fruits develop that taste similar to figs. Damiana is an ingredient in traditional Mexican liqueur, and according to Mexicans, the herb is part of the traditional margarita.
